The Waterfront to Host 2020/21 Season

When Intu announced the permanent closure of the curling facility at Braehead back in November, our Match Secretary, David Shanks, immediately starting looking at alternative curling facilities around the Greater Glasgow area for the 2020/21 season.  Thanks to David's indefatigable efforts, we are now delighted to announce that Dumbarton Curling Club will play the 2020/21 season at The Waterfront Leisure Centre, Greenock.

David's initial approach to the Waterfront in November was warmly received by the Rink Management, and David Horne invited Dumbarton to the Waterfront, to view the facilities and play a friendly match against Newark Curling Club, which was gratefully accepted by the club committee.

This won't be the first time Dumbarton have utilised The Waterfront for their club matches.  Following the closure of the Ice Rink at the Summit Centre, Finnieston in 1998, Dumbarton played the 1998/99 season at The Waterfront before moving to Braehead when it first opened for the 1999/2000 season.

Unfortunately, due to ice availability, we are unable to retain Tuesday evenings as our club night.  However we do have a set day and time of Wednesday evenings at 8:00pm for all internal club matches, with the first session of the new season scheduled for Wednesday 30 September at 8:00pm.

The Club's first priority is always to ensure the safety and well being of our members.  As such due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, which abruptly curtailed last season, we will always take into the consideration government guidelines on restrictions of group gatherings, social distancing measures and sporting activities.  As such the scheduled start date of 30 September may be postponed until the committee feel it is safe to commence curling.

Anybody who is interested in taking up curling as a sport, and/or joining Dumbarton Curling Club next season can contact our Club Secretary Jim MacDonald (email: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) or by completing the enquiry form opposite.
